Nothing But The Best

“The Chairman of the Board” died in May of 1998, yet his music sounds as vital and relevant today as ever. Released on the 10th anniversary of his death–in coordination with a slew of DVD releases commemorating the singer’s acting career as well as an official U.S. Postal Service stamp–NOTHING BUT THE BEST provides an excellent look at Sinatra’s tenure at the Reprise label. Among the album’s 22 vintage cuts are classics such as “The Way You Look Tonight,” “Luck Be a Lady,” “Strangers in the Night,” and “My Way.” The disc also contains a bonus track in the previously unreleased recording of “Body and Soul.” Diehard Sinatra fans will likely own most of this material, yet as a greatest hits set (albeit covering the Reprise years only) NOTHING BUT THE BEST lives up to its title....

Saint Privat

Riviera

Riviera

Saint Privat is a story born of a midsummer wedding. Valerie performs in the
wedding band and in doing so meets electronic producer Waldeck who is
amongst the guests. They start a conversation and discover they want to move
in the same direction- musically that is. Et voilà… some time later Saint Privat
is born.
Saint Privat takes you to a glamorous world nestled between soft Bossa-Nova,
60’s Riviera and Rococo Jazz. Intimate and glamorous vocals reminiscent of
french chansons combined with subtle electronic sounds set the delicate
framework for their dreamy, fresh but nevertheless deep debut album. “Riviera”
brings back a forgotten world in which charming jewel thieves end up in high
speed car chases on the French riviera. A world full of spotaneous joy
(“Nothing Lose”), baroque feelings (“Rokoko”) and sparkling hedonism....

Splendor In The Grass

Splendor in the Grass

timesonline review:
Yes, they can be too cute for their own good sometimes, but the pianist Thomas Lauderdale and the singer China Forbes deserve credit for their single-minded pursuit of a hip form of retro lounge music. From the languorous opening notes of the Neapolitan song Ninna Nanna, you know that the mini big band is set to take you on another journey through piazzas and dark alleys. Tuca Tuca blows a kiss in the direction of Raffaella Carra, while the title tune springs a surprise with a sudden burst of Tchaikovsky. Sing finds the band drifting dangerously close to Carpenters terrain, but the overall mix is so full of quirky Latinesque surprises that the syrupy moments soon fade from the memory....
